Au Nigéria le chef d’état-major tué dans un accident d’avion

Le chef d’état-major de l’armée nigériane, le général Ibrahim Attahiru, est mort dans un accident d’avion vendredi lors d’une visite officielle dans l’État de Kaduna, qui a connu des problèmes de sécurité ces derniers mois.

L’armée de l’air a déclaré dans un communiqué que l’avion qui transportait le chef d’état-major et plusieurs officiers s’était écrasé près de l’aéroport de Kaduna et qu’une enquête a été immédiatement diligentée pour déterminer la cause du crash. Selon nos informations exclusives, 11 personnes ont perdu la vie dans cet accident.
Ce crash survient trois mois après qu’un petit avion de ligne de l’armée de l’air nigériane se soit écrasé à proximité de l’aéroport d’Abuja à la suite d’une panne de moteur présumée, tuant les sept personnes à bord. Le président Muhammadu Buhari avait nommé M. Attahiru et plusieurs chefs militaires en Janvier, plusieurs années de vives critiques sur les attaques répétées des insurgés islamistes et des bandes armées.

Nigerian army chief Ibrahim Attahiru killed in air crash

Nigeria’s army chief, Lt-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, has been killed in a plane crash in the north-western state of Kaduna, officials say.
The incident happened as the plane was trying to land in bad weather, the military said. Ten other officers, including the plane’s crew also died.

President Muhammadu Buhari said he was « deeply saddened » by the crash.

Gen Attahiru, 54, only took up his post in January in an overhaul of the military’s top brass.

It was part of the government’s plan to boost the military’s efficiency in fighting a more than decade-long jihadist insurgency.

The Nigerian Air Force said the incident happened as the plane was landing at Kaduna International Airport.

On Twitter, the president said the crash was a « mortal blow… at a time our armed forces are poised to end the security challenges facing the country ».

Friday’s crash comes three months to the day after a Nigerian military plane crashed short of a runway in the capital Abuja, killing all seven people on board.
